Runaway Beach Sunset - Sunday, 25 May 08

Lately there continually seems to be a cloud (or two) crossing the path of the sun before it dips into the ocean at the end of the day. Today was no different. It did provide some interesting light beams and color schemes though.
Some beautiful blends of yellow and orange brighten the sky against the darkening blue water.

Last Minute Sunset At Dickinson Bay - Thursday, 22 May 08

As I arrived at Dickinson Bay to watch the sunset I realized I was a little late, but was still able to capture the final moments of color.
As I approached the beach I could see the remaining burst of color before the sun went behind the clouds. The sailboat had been pulled ashore for the evening; the brightness of it's colorful sails darkening as the sun set.
No matter how little there is to see of a sunset it's always a wonderful sight to watch.
A seaside table for two. Sandals had several of these intimate settings scattered along the beach for the dining pleasure of their guests. A beautiful spot to share an evening with someone special.

Dickinson Bay Sunset - Sunday, 11 May 08

Dickinson Bay always provides an ideal opportunity to capture some wonderful sunsets! Even though the following photos were all taken within 30 minutes of one another you can see how the sun constantly changes in color and intensity as it sets.
A random tourist silhouetted in the sun's reflection while walking along the shore.
A beautiful orange color was cast across the sky during a portion of the final lowering of the sun.
As the sun makes it's way even closer to the horizon the oranges are exchanged for hues of pink, mauve and lavender.
This beach sign seems to find it's way into many of my photos of sunsets taken from this location. This is directly in front of Sneaky Pete's Beach Bar.

Antigua Rainforest - Sunday, 11 May 08

I finally made the time to take in one of the island's attractions; zip-lining and rope bridging through the rainforest. We weren't allowed to have cameras while on the zip-line, but I was still able to capture a few shots at other locations.Ready to go!
It's hard to see in this photo, but there is a cable running from a platform in the distance through the air to another platform beyond the photo's edge.
This is what some of the platforms looked like.
Walking across one of the rope bridges at the end of the course.

An Afternoon In/On The Water! - Friday, 9 May 08

Phil invited Justin and I out on his boat for some snorkeling around some of the reefs just minutes away from our part of the island. It was a great afternoon being in/on the water!
The water was absolutely beautiful!! It's amazing how vibrant the colors can be sometimes!!
Yellow fins against the blue water is all you can see as Justin dives down to find a "treasure" on the ocean floor.
The water was so clear! Along the side of the boat you can see almost 20' down to the bottom.
Justin "hamming" it up for the camera. In the background you can see a small portion of Jumby Island.
When taking a picture against the sun it appears like a black & white shot. An interesting contrast to the other shots taken.

Hike Up Monk's Hill - Saturday, 3 May 08

A nice hour long hike up Monk's Hill seemed like a great way to start the weekend. I was reassured that it wasn't a bad climb and the view would be worth it; both were true.
Our hiking crew for the day (L-R) Jimmy, Will, Patti, Bill, Patty and Justin. This was taken at the top of the "hill" in front of the entrance to a fort that once covered the entire top.
I'm told that the greenish color in the stone is caused by the copper content in the stone. It really adds an interesting look to the old structures.
As promised, there would be a great view. Behind me is Farmouth Harbour. The small harbor behind it is English Harbour. Since I'm a big chicken when it comes to heights this was as close to the wall edge I would go (and I was pretty apprehensive to sit there).
A nice touch of color adorned this tree protruding from one of the ruins. There's always something flowering on the island!
Another structure was actually in pretty good condition for being very old. Here's the arched doorway that lead to a small entrance and then into a larger open area.

A Day Of Sea & Sun - Friday, 2 May 08

An afternoon "out n about" provided some beautiful views from numerous locations along the west side of the island.
The water at Darkwood Beach was just pristine in color as it lazily lapped against the shore.
A number of sailing vessels can barely be seen in the distance here. These were competitors in a Division B sailing race from Jolly Harbour to Farmouth Harbour.
The Carnival Destiny cruise ship appears mammoth in size compared to the small buildings along the port of St. Johns were the ship was docked for the day.
The unique shape of this rock formation cropping out of the sea just off shore was the isnpiration for the name of the resort that extends along the beaches here; The Hawksbill Resort.
Spirit Keepers can be found along different beaches around the island. Some are piled rocks, others are dangling objects from a piece of driftwood or even a combination of both. It was a nice view as the sun danced across the water beyond.
